What is Muhurta in Vedic astrology?

Muhurta, also called electional astrology, is the Jyotish practice of selecting a favorable time to begin an important activity. The underlying idea is simple: just as a birth chart describes the planetary pattern at the beginning of a life, the time chosen for an important undertaking can be examined as the beginning of that undertaking. Classical Muhurta therefore considers the quality of the day and time before a wedding, house entry, journey, business opening, purchase, ceremony or other significant start.

How this auspicious-date finder works

Choose the type of event, the date range you are considering, and the location where the event will occur. TryJyotish evaluates the dates using simplified Vedic Muhurta criteria. The first stage screens the range using factors such as tithi (lunar day) and nakshatra (lunar mansion). The strongest remaining candidates are then compared and explained with AI assistance so that you can see why one date may be more promising than another.

This approach is intended to make the first stage of Muhurta exploration quick and understandable. A complete traditional election can consider additional factors—including weekday, yoga, karana, planetary strength, the nature of the event, the individual's horoscope and the precise time within a chosen day. For an important life event such as a wedding, the results here should therefore be treated as a useful shortlist rather than a definitive professional election.

What can you use Muhurta for?

The tool currently supports weddings, Griha Pravesh (housewarming), travel, business launches or openings, naming ceremonies, vehicle purchases and general auspicious beginnings. Select the category closest to your intended event. Because Muhurta principles can differ according to the activity, the purpose of the event matters when evaluating a date.

Muhurta, Prashna and Panchang

These Jyotish tools answer different kinds of questions. Muhurta asks, “When is a favorable time to begin?” Prashna Jyotish examines a chart for the moment a specific question is asked. The daily Panchang describes the astrological qualities of a particular day. If you want a broader personal analysis based on your birth details, return to the Vedic birth chart and AI reading.

Important: Muhurta recommendations here use simplified classical rules and AI-assisted interpretation. They are intended for educational and exploratory use. For major life events, consider consulting a qualified Jyotish practitioner who can evaluate the full election and relevant birth charts.
